I don’t have kids. Maybe. Someday. This past weekend I had the pleasure of spending (babysitting?) 5 days with my 7 year old nephew and 5 year old niece. I had a great routine going with them. Mornings I could read the paper and have a cup of coffee while the kids watched cartoons and drank OJ. Play, Breakfast, play, Lunch, some school work, play, Dinner, play, bed. I would wash all the dishes, including their OJ cups after I put them to bed (important note to the story).
After I was back home for a day, my sister and I talked. Apparently, this was their conversation:
Nephew: “Mom, Aunt Susan does weird things.”
Mom (my sister): “Like what?”
Nephew: “She made us use the same cup everyday.”
Because I used the same cup – just easier on me since I would refill the night before – my nephew thought I was giving them dirty cups! Bill Cosby and Art Linkletter are correct, kids do say the darnedest things! (or maybe adults do weird things, like my nephew said.)
